An Itty Bitty Update, My Wish List and My ADD Brain!

There is a distinct possibility that I may finish painting my craft / laundry room cabinets today.
You might remember, I briefly mentioned this project here when I told you about the many projects I had going at the time.
Well they're still going...

Now let me clarify.
'Cause I wouldn't want y'all to get the wrong idea or anything.
Just because I finish them, does not mean you can expect to see a completed project any time soon.

Let's be realistic.
We haven't even bought the countertops yet.
And you definitely don't wanna see the current condition of the room they're destined for!
Oh, you do wanna see?
You sure??
Don't say I didn't warn you.

Horrifying Laundry Room Mess!

I can't believe I just showed you that.
But I'm keepin' it real today at the Cottage.
It's how I roll.

Speaking of projects I need want to do...

I have a list.
It's a To Do list and a Wish List all in one.
Wanna see that too?

Yeah, I'll probably never get it all done.
Especially since I've been adding to it way faster than I've been taking away.

Take the last two items for example.
I added them today.
I really blame Pinterest.
It's not my fault!

I mean who wouldn't want a shelf full of DIY Letter Blocks?

And it would be completely unrealistic to assume that after seeing this amazing Felt Flower Pouf that I wouldn't want to make one myself.

Source: Me Oh My!

And after looking at my list, I see that it would also be completely unrealistic to assume that I could spell the word "flower" correctly.
Nothin' but perfection here at the Cottage.

Now aren't you pleased you got such an up close and personal look at how my jumbled mind operates on this lovely Sunday afternoon?!?

Wood Mail Basket

There's a D.A.V. on my way home from work.
I have apparently developed a teensy tiny habit of stopping by on Friday afternoons.
I was unaware how regular these stops had become until one Friday when I didn't go.

Mr. Concrete walked in the door asking where my latest junk was.

"Why would I have new junk?" I asked.
"Because it's Friday!" he responded like I was stupid.

Yeah, it's a habit.

So last Friday I found this...

I've been looking for something to hold all the random mail and papers always laying around the kitchen.

When I found this basket I knew it was the perfect size to fit between my existing glass jars.

All it needed was a bit of tweaking.

The twine and thatching wrapped around it wasn't quite working for me.

It had to go.

I used a pair of Mr. Concrete's tin snips and it was outta there!

Little did I know what all that twine was covering up.

No worries.

A bit of Gorilla Glue and some clamps fixed it right up.

{never mind the table knife holding the wood in place while it dries, a girl's gotta use what a girl's gotta use}

And it's perfect now!

Well, perfect enough anyway.

I love that it went from "typical" to a rustic harvest basket with just a few snips.
Ok, so maybe it's NOT a harvest basket.
But I can pretend.
Try and stop me!

I threw in a few of the letters Mr. Concrete sent me during his time stationed in Iraq.
They're amazingly special to me, and way better looking than my current electric bill.

So that's it!
I'm hoping this'll help us stay a bit more organized.
Wish me luck...

Have Suitcase - Will Travel... or just paint!

I found one.

You guys have no idea how long I've been looking for one!

Yes, I know, they're at all the local antique stores, but who wants to pay those prices!!
The Goodwill's never had one before.
The D.A.V.'s always got those flimsy ones like I had when I was a kid.
(You know, the kind with the flowers and the stupid zipper that never worked quite right.)

They never have the good ones.

The ones that just shout "I've been for a real trip around the world and now I'm vintagy old, worn and yummy."

That's what I've been looking for.

And last Friday...

They. Finally. Had. ONE.

Meet my SUITCASE!

She was $5.48 at the D.A.V.

I'll admit it.

She was a little rough when I found her.

Her last owners loved her so much they didn't just stop at Duck Tape to hold her together, they decided to throw in some blue painters tape for good measure.
Tell me that aint love.

But I gotta say, she cleaned up pretty good!

I used my trusty Annie Sloan Chalk Paint again in Duck Egg Blue and Old White.
Then I just had some fun!

It's amazing what some paint and dark wax will do for a piece, dontcha think?

I'm hoping to one day have a bunch of old suitcases I can stack up and drool over admire.
However, if it takes as long to find each one as it did to find this one...
Let's just say I may be drooling for another reason before my collection's complete.

Speaking of how long things take...

I've had this suitcase painted for a few days now and just haven't had the time to sit down, edit photos and get this written.

I know I'll never be an "everyday" kinda blog poster, but I had no idea how much time it would take to just get one out sometimes.

That being said...

I hope you're all having as much fun reading about my crazy projects as I am doing them.
I may only post once a week (or so), but I certainly enjoy sharing with all you lovely blogland friends!!

I'm sure someone's got this "be a mom, work a full-time job and be a blogger" thing figured out (even if it's not me).

Right?
